HeritageCast #21 | Phil Hogan

⚡️ Powered by 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐲𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 and 𝟑𝟔𝟎 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬   Hull Kingston Rovers broke the world rugby league transfer record when they signed Phil from Barrow for £32,000 in December 1978.    With 150 appearances already to his name and a World Cup Final appearance for Great Britain Phil came to the Robins in search of silverware and he didn't disappoint!  Winning trophies was a case of not if but when with Phil playing a key role in securing Championship, Premiership, Yorkshire Cup and Challenge Cup glory for the Robins.   In this HeritageCast Phil takes his through his career in red and white and shares some never heard before stories including how he fell out with Roger Millward because of benched for the 1980 Challenge Cup Final.  In all, Phil Hogan made 254 appearances for the Robins, 25 of these as a substitute; he scored 65 tries and kicked 53 goals, plus a drop goal, for a total of 316 points.    He was a fast and powerful runner, and a fine cover-tackler, who always gave 100% – as well as a flamboyant personality both on and off the field. Whilst it might be difficult to imagine some of the players of the past playing in Super League, that would not have applied to Phil Hogan – it could have been made for him. 𝓤𝓹 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓡𝓸𝓫𝓲𝓷𝓼! ⚡️ Powered by 𝟑𝟔𝟎 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 and 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐲𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞. THE 2022 BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE SEASON IS NOW OVER FOR THE ROBINS AND ITS BEEN ANOTHER ROLLERCOASTER OF A RIDE.  A season that promised so much ultimately ended in disappointment with Hull Kingston Rovers failing to extend their season beyond Saturday 3rd September.   A Challenge Cup Semi Final appearance did bring joy to Craven Park as did notable results against our cross city rivals plus there was excitement at the emergence of a number of academy players. The unexpected departure of Tony Smith and a crippling injury list though meant Rovers often stuttered rather then shone.   Joining Chris for the Red Robin Podcast End of Season Review is a bumper Fans Panel compromising of James Purling, Graham Turner, Dan Craft, Karl Smith and Mike Carter with the lads discussing their season highlights, lowlights and look at which players were hot and which were not in 2022!   𝓤𝓹 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓡𝓸𝓫𝓲𝓷𝓼!

BLESSED WITH BLISTERING PACE GARRY ROCKED THE RUGBY LEAGUE WORLD WHEN AFTER MAKING HIS DEBUT FOR THE ROBINS AT THE TENDER AGE OF JUST 17 HE WENT ON TO SCORE SIX TRY'S IN HIS FIRST THREE GAMES. From that fantastic start Garry never looked back and he went on the become a regular during the the 1980's glory days when playing for trophies was when and not if.  In this 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞Cast he talks about the joys of playing in the Colts system, the players who influenced his career most and what it meant to still have to work whilst playing for the Robins. Garry also discusses the phenomenal start to his career which saw him score 68 try's in first three seasons, the form which lead to a Great Britain call up and the defeats that still continue to haunt him. Garry Clark played 259 times for Hull Kingston Rovers and scored 121 try's. He represented Great Britain three times and earned one England call up. 𝓤𝓹 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓡𝓸𝓫𝓲𝓷𝓼!
