What Happens In The Woods Take Over

This week we have another podcast takeover. Brice and Jess of the “What Happens in the Woods” podcast tell us a story.  Kaylee Birdzell was a young, beautiful and much loved woman who was brutally murdered in August of 2022. A suspect was quickly found and was awaiting his arraignment when he decided to make an attempt to end his life in jail. Sadly, the details of all of this senselessness have spread far and wide across the nation, all while Kaylee’s family is grieving and searching for justice.  Please keep this family in your thoughts as they navigate the coming months. For dinner, we decided to share her favorite meal, which was chicken Alfredo. For dessert, we had funfetti cake and for drinks we Slo-Jams Sauvignon Blanc, a favorite on this podcast.  Time stamp: 26:18 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast | Twitter, Instagram, Facebook | Linktree https://linktr.ee/wdst or call/text us some time  6093003094 This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! God Is Left Handed

Most violent crimes are senseless, but the one we cover this week is senseless with a bag of chips. Steven Keith Hatch and Glen Burton Ake went on a crime spree that would end in the attempted annihilation of the Douglas family of Okarche, Oklahoma. A plot twist would put an end to that spree and, in the process, change the existing victim’s rights laws.  For dinner, with inspiration from the story Cindy made Salisbury steaks. For dessert, we shared Texas sheet cake cookies, a recipe from Oklahoma food blogger The Pioneer Woman. We washed it all down with Spiked Roy Rogers. Mexican’t

A mysterious thing has been happening in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico over the last 25 years. Hundreds of women have been “disappeared” or viciously murdered. Many men have been suspected of the femicides. This week we cover some of the suspects and causes.  We tried Cindy’s Mexican tacos al pastor and were surprised by a special ingredient; pineapple. For dessert, we had churro muffins, and we drank Palomas, a delicious tequila beverage that uses grapefruit as a mixer.   Time stamp: 20:25 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast https://linktr.ee/wdst  or call/text us some time  6093003094 This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! Scottish Murder Takes Over The Crime Diner

The Diner was taken over this week by all things Scottish! Dawn from one of our favorite podcasts, Scottish Murders tells us of The Goatfell Mystery  In 1889, two men on holiday on the Isle of Arran climbed Goatfell Mountain, however, only one came down alive. What actually happened on the mountain is still debated to this day, was it an accident or was it murder? Nydia may have solved the case with one of her interesting theories.  Dawn tested Cindy this week, tasking her to make a traditional Scottish menu. Cindy made Cullen Skink, a smoked haddock Chowder. She paired it with a hearty homemade bread and for dessert she made Cranachan. We enjoyed this meal with a Glasgow punch. Nydia covers the infamous National Pencil Factory Murder of Mary Phagan. Dana shares the story of Georgia’s oracle, Mayhayley Lancaster.  For dinner, we were treated with skillet balsamic pork chops with peaches and gorgonzola cheese over creamy polenta. It Got Fizzical

For as long as any of us can remember, Pepsi and Coke have been the two soda pop kings. For the most part, their rivalry has been of a cold war nature, but when the market share of the Philippines became fair play, the big guns came out. In the end, many would be injured, and five would be dead.  Cindy went with the theme of Filipino foods and made a deliciously hearty beef mechado stew with a side of lumpia which is a must try! For dessert, she went with cassava cake which was met with mixed reviews. For drinks, we had, punyeta, a cocktail made of iced tea, pineapple, and rum; so good it makes you curse.  Time stamp: 40:06 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast https://linktr.ee/wdst or call/text us some time  6093003094 This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! Dr. Baker Medicine Faker

Dr. Norman G Baker was a huckster who scammed desperate people out of millions of dollars. This week we cover the shameless snake oil salesman and his connection to the famously haunted Crescent Hotel.  Cindy prepared a feast of chicken fried steak with Arkansas baked string beans and mashed potatoes which of course was based on the theme which was Arkansas. Dessert was also based on the theme, it was a possum pie. It had no possums in it. Thanks to God. Cindy killed it with that one once again. For drinks, we shared Arkansas Razorbacks made from a mixture of spirits, no pun intended.  It was not to Nydia’s liking but then again; what is?  Time stamp:32:31 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast https://linktr.ee/wdst or call/text us some time  6093003094 This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! A Sad State of Affairs

No marriage is perfect, and Grace Pianka and Adam Kostewicz were no exception. Hidden behind the doors of their home, no one ever truly knew what was happening. This is a story of an immigrant family attaining the American dream and turning it into an American nightmare. It’s a story of losing it all for love.  For dinner, we went with a Polish theme. Cindy made Polish Pork Goulash and potato pancakes. The eatin was so good! For dessert, Cindy came up with a love theme and made strawberry crunch cheesecake cones, and yes, they were to die for! Phroggy Come a Courtin

This week we share a story that will have you checking all corners of your house. This family had no idea that a killer lived amongst them, plotting their demise. We cover the ultimate invasion of privacy; phrogging.  Our chef, Cindy, went with a hidden ingredients theme. For dinner, she made pulled pork sandwiches but instead of bread she used plantains. For dessert, she made us brownies. The secret ingredient being avocados. Covid has launched a plague upon our homes and we were not able to record an episode for you this week but we didn’t want to leave you hanging. If you have ever seen this documentary and need to unpack it, check out how we react. There’s nothing funny about murder but some of the details of this case are quite laughable. Incomplete Sentence

This week we share a story that will have you scratching your head. You think you love someone; but do you love someone like Steven Jay Russell loved Phillip Morris? This con-man had a love so strong that prison bars couldn’t contain it.  On the menu… prison food. Cindy researched inmate favorites and came up with a menu of ziti with beef meatballs, a house salad, Italian dressing, and a slice of white bread. For dessert, blueberry pound cake, and what else would we drink if not toilet wine? Kidding, of course, we had the next best thing: homemade Grenach wine.  Time stamp: 28:41 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast  https://linktr.ee/wdst or call/text us some time  6093003094 This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! Unfriended

This week we cover the Facebook murders, an unbelievable story of how loneliness and social isolation can lead to bullying, harassment, and even death. This real-life story of catfishing and love triangles shook a small town in Tennessee to the core.  Cindy dug up some recipes she saved on her Facebook page just for this episode. She made us a Chicken Tetrazzini that Nydia and Dana would not stop raving about. Then she hit us with a Twinkie cake that could not be beat. The question is what did they think about the Waltz Vineyard Rose? Golden Girls

The Golden Girls were a staple of our youth but what was the secret to the show’s success? Why did we tune in to watch four old ladies? We came for the laughs and stayed for the friendship; kind of like this podcast. This week we discuss the show and the private lives of the actors.  For dinner, we went with a southern theme. Cindy prepared recipes from the Golden Girls Cookbook. We had the Southern Not So Fried Chicken with honey Bourbon carrots and buttermilk mashed potatoes. For dessert, we had Mr. Ha Ha’s cheesecake. We washed it all down with Amaretto Sours.   Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast  https://linktr.ee/wdst or call/text us some time  6093003094 This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! They say tall fences make the best neighbors, but what happens when you share a wall with your neighbor? All Ann Hoover wanted to do was better her neighborhood. Her wish came true but at a greater cost than anyone wanted to pay.  For dinner, Cindy went with the topic of moving and made us delicious flatbread pizzas. Milk Spills Sipple Secret

This week in honor of pride month, we cover a gay pride story. Oliver Sipple was a veteran living with a secret. He was thrust into the spotlight after an extremely rare heroic moment. What should have been a celebration of life turned into a persecution thanks to the well-meaning yet misguided Harvey Milk.   This week, we had pride recipes from queer chefs. Cindy took inspiration from Tasty Pride Recipe Book. For dinner, she made amazing beef braciole over polenta. For dessert, a decadent dark chocolate mousse cake. For drinks, we sipped on purple bunnies which were not purple at all. Meeting With Murder

A husband catches his wife’s assassin in the act and kills him before he can kill again. He’s regaled as a hero but not all is as it seems because Mark is hiding a dark secret. His lover knows the ugly truth but how can an ex-girlfriend hold a secret? This week we cover the story of Mark Winger and his nearly perfect crimes.  Our food this week came right out of Illinois Country Living. For dinner, the signature sandwich of Illinois,  the Horseshoe Sandwich. This unapologetic sandwich doesn’t try to be healthy, it’s simply delicious. For dessert, Cindy made another Illinois favorite, the raspberry torte. This recipe was a must-try. It was a beautiful treat. For drinks, we shared Grandma’s lemonade. Sarah, Sarah Pumpkin Eater

Sometimes the ones we love hurt us most. Sarah learned that her husband had been trying to hurt her and it wasn’t until she began secretly recording him one Thanksgiving, that she uncovered the scary truth. She took her video to TikTok and it went viral. This week she shares her story with us.  In true Crime Diner fashion, Cindy made a Thanksgiving dinner of roasted turkey, baked potatoes, and stuffing complete with pumpkin pie for dessert.  We drank Stefan Winter Riesling which paired well with the turkey.  Time Stamp: 32:35 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast https://linktr.ee/wdst or call/text us some time  6093003094 This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! In the late 60s, in a small town in Mexico, there existed a ruthless killer who was quite literally a maneater. Magdalena Solis known as the High Priestess of Blood, took the people of Yerbabuena and used them for blood sacrifices and sexual rituals.  For dinner, Cindy made a traditional Mexican meal of chicken enchiladas verdes. They were finger-licking good. For dessert, she made a strawberry margarita cake that was spongy and tangy. We shared some delicious tequila sunrises. These did not disappoint.  Time Stamp 30:33 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast https://linktr.ee/wdst Call or Text us some time  6093003094 This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out!
