Episode 197: ”Paul and The Hall”

Macca and the Hall of Fame. This week, with Andy back to almost 100% we discuss Paul's association with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. From his non-appearance at the Beatles induction in 1988, to his own in 1999. We discuss his speeches for others, (John in 1994, James Taylor in 2000, Ringo in 2015) as well as his own. We've also included all the speeches as well. One thing we can agree on - talking publicly in front of "the establishment" is something that isn't easy for our kid. It seems though by 2015 with Ringo's he got a bit more comfortable. We also discuss Record Store Day 2023, and other upcoming releases as well as Paul's recent appearances at the Super Bowl and his appearance at Yale for a discussion on "The Lyrics" book. What are your thoughts on Paul and his relationship with the HOF? Does it matter anymore?

We feature several video/audio clips throughout the episode, (the 1986 Q Interview) and others. Thank you Madeline for a great discussion! Episode 194: ”Top 10 Pre-Pepper Paul Tracks”

We decided to tackle some Beatle era Paul for this week's show. As news was slow last week (we recorded this before the book announcement) we felt that discussing some Beatle Paul songs was a fresh idea. With a caveat. Paul's Beatles tracks from 1967 and on are so richly (and deservedly) celebrated, this week we name our Top 10 Pre-Pepper Paul songs between 1962 and 1966. This can include covers as well. We left out a few "biggies" and also included some you probably wouldn't have included. As Tom mentioned "It's our list. As of now." Ours and I'm sure yours is always subject to change. What's Your Top 10 Pre-Pepper Paul? We will likely do a "Blue Album" version of this in the near future. :) Happy Weekend 2Legs Faithful

Bonus Episode: ”1964: Eyes Of The Storm” (New Book Annoucement)

Well it didn't take long for Paul to drop an announcement for a new book release.  1964: Eyes Of The Storm will be published on 13th June 2023 featuring 275 photos taken by Paul between late 1964 and early 1964 when The Beatles arrived in the US.  Full Press Release: In 2020, an extraordinary trove of nearly a thousand photographs taken by Paul on a 35mm camera was re-discovered in his archive. They intimately record the months towards the end of 1963 and beginning of 1964 when Beatlemania erupted in the UK and, after the band’s first visit to the USA, they became the most famous people on the planet. The photographs are Paul’s personal record of this explosive time, when they, The Beatles, were inside looking out and were the ‘Eyes of the Storm’.  In a new exhibition and book, Paul will present his photographs from the six cities of these intense, legendary months – Liverpool, London, Paris, New York, Washington, D.C. and Miami – and many never-before-seen portraits of John, George and Ringo. ‘Anyone who rediscovers a personal relic or family treasure is instantly flooded with memories and emotions, which then trigger associations buried in the haze of time. This was exactly my experience in seeing these photos, all taken over an intense three-month period of travel, culminating in February 1964. It was a wonderful sensation to be plunged right back. Here was my own record of our first huge trip, a photographic journal of The Beatles in six cities, beginning in Liverpool and London, followed by Paris (where John and I had been ordinary hitchhikers just over two years before), and then what we regarded as the big time, our first visit as a group to America’ - Paul McCartney In a new book accompanying the National Portrait Gallery exhibition, Paul presents 275 of his own photographs from an iconic time in music history, organised into portfolios from the six cities The Beatles visited in this intense time period. In his Foreword and Introductions to these city portfolios, Paul remembers ‘what else can you call it – pandemonium’ and conveys his impressions of Britain and America in 1964 – the moment when the culture changed and the Sixties really began. 1964: Eyes of the Storm includes: __ __

Episode 193: ”The Album Game”

Hi Gang, We decided to play a fun game for this episode suggested to us by a listener that was also done on the (Things We Said Today https://beatlesexaminer.podbean.com/ Podcast. We take the 70s Macca/Wings albums and we pick one song from each that could work in either direction. (I.e One from Ram that could work on Wild Life) etc. The only exceptions being McCartney and Back To The Egg  because you can't go backwards (in the case of McCartney) or forwards (BTTE) on these (if we're staying in the 1970s timeline). This was a cool exercise and in most cases we had some choices that really worked well. What would you swap out? And a shout out to Kyle again for the suggestion. Tom and Andy

Audio Archives: ”Pipes of Peace”(December 1983 Interview)

We are kicking off the new year with a new series called "Audio Archive Interviews" that will drop on the first Saturday of each month (as we don't post new episodes the first week). We will feature an audio only interview from a given year with hopefully some refreshing perspectives for Paul fans. For our first one, we featured an interview Paul gave to the BBC on 14th December 1983). In this interview Paul gives a track by track breakdown of his recently (October) released album Pipes of Peace. (Which in 2023 will be 40 years old, scary). Interviews like this are gold for Macca fans because the music and the songs were fresh and Paul openly speaks about all of the tracks and how they came about. Lots of Jackson discussion as well. We hope you enjoy this new series as much as we did discovering these. Happy New Year again!

Episode 190: ”Best Friend” (Part 4, with Antony Rotunno)

Happy Christmas 2Legs Faithful. We hope you are gearing up for a Wonderful Christmastime this year! Yes, it is Christmas Eve but we have a special one for this week. Last year we had Antony Rotunno (Glass Onion: On John Lennon) podcast on our show for a series we've dubbed "Best Friend" where we explore the in depth relationship between John and Paul throughout the 1970s. For 2022, and for Part 4 of this deep dive we focus on the late 70s, (starting with Lennon and Allen Klein finally setting their dispute in January of 1977. However the focal point of our show this week is primarily the pivotal year of 1980. Lennon returning to music, giving prolific amounts of interviews throughout the Fall of 1980, McCartney's responses to his comments. We've included some audio, photos and video clips sprinkled throughout this one.  Antony's Podcast: Glass Onion: On John Lennon https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/glass-onion-on-john-lennon/id1473867166 We hope all of you have a 'Wonderful Christmastime' with you and your families. Episode 187: ”Year In Review”: 1980 (w/Madinger & Easter)

A special episode & a very significant year for Paul. 1980. This week on 2 Legs we invited Chip Madinger (Lennonology) and Mark Easter who co-authored "Eight Arms To Hold You" back on the show for another "Year In Review" episode. 1980 starts and obviously ends terribly for Paul. But throughout the year he collected a Grammy, had a US #1 Single, and #1 UK album, and planned on forging ahead with Wings even after Japan in January. We added some vintage news clips and a music video in between our discussions this week. We hope you enjoy them. Please visit Lennonology http://www.lennonology.com if you're interested in picking up a PDF revision of "Eight Arms" and Chips epic work on Lennon's solo career he worked on with Scott Raile. We hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate) and we're 'Getting Closer' to the 7" Inch Box release! Andy & Tom

Episode 186: ”Put It There” (Documentary) A Look Back

Hey Gang, We're back with a brand new episode. This week we went back to the Documentary/Film/Concert review series that we've done in the past. (Red Square, Broad Street, Space Within Us) but this time we opted to view and discuss the 1989 Doc Put It There. The film chronicles Paul's then newly assembled band of Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), Robbie McIntosh (Pretenders), Paul "Wix" Wickens, and Chris Witten (Dire Straits) and of course Linda preparing for the upcoming World Tour that took place between September 1989 to July 1990. Paul mostly discusses about rehearsing the band with the new material from Flowers In The Dirt. Paul also occasionally dives into the tracks on the album. The documentary was directed by longtime McCartney film collaborator Geoff Wonfor and Paul was interviewed by Tracy McLeod. One of the better documentaries in Paul's career we both felt. You? Be Well, Tom & Andy

Episode 185:”Top 5 Moments”

Hi all! This week on 2Legs we welcome Tony from "Beatley Tone's Beatles Channel", a fellow YouTuber who joined the community a year ago or so. Tony has been an ardent supporter of 2Legs, and has created some excellent videos on his channel, specifically the deep dives into the McCartney Archive Series which launched in 2010. For this show, Tony, Andy and Tom chose 5 moments from Paul's career that we felt he "got right." That could be an album, a relationship, a song, anything really related to his career. We kicked around some good topics and we hope you agree with some of our choice. What are some others? Let us know!
